Crossroad Blues Today we studied the lyrics of a blues song called The Crossroad Blues , by Robert Johnson in 1936. This song has strange lyrics, it mentions a Willie Brown ( un certain Willie Brown ), a friend of the singer's. We also noticed that some words have missing letters ( goin, standin, 'at, etc. ). It tells the story of a man who is on the street, and something bad happens, because he says he needs the Lord to help him. Crossroads used to be considered as evil, negative places, where you could go at night if you ever wanted to sell your soul to the devil. That's why there are so many crosses today at ancient crossroads. 21 july 1 9 6 9 Neil Armstrong test pilot Apollo 11 why impressive mars

Tritone Today we studied a short text about a music interval called the diminished fifth , or tritone . An interval is two notes played together or apart. It can also be called a chord. The text explained that the tritone was said to be dissonant and evil sounding. The author even claimed that the medieval Church banned it. Another name for the tritone was diabolus in musica , "the devil in the music." Then we listened to a few examples from Classical music to Jazz. These notes had a dreary, and scary effect in Liebermann's Nocturne or in Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta . On the other hand, it also had a funny effect to it in the opening theme of the Simpsons , by Danny Elfman. Trillo Del Diavolo Today we studied a picture with a man in a bed. At first we imagined he was sleeping, or that he was old and he was dying. We noticed there was smoke on the right of the drawing. On the foreground ( au premier plan ), we could see a night table with music sheets, a glass and a candle. In the background ( au deuxième plan, à l'arrière plan ), there was more smoke. We even supposed his feet were on fire, that his house was burning. In the end, we understood there really was a demonic figure on his bed, playing the violin. The man seemed happy. This illustration shows the famous violin player Giuseppe Tartini who reportedly sold his soul to the devil to acquire a supernatural musical gift. a nightmare / a bad dream awe awestruck awful the soul hell / hades a pact / a covenant evil devil / a fiend
