Seduction of the Innocent Today we studied a text by an American psychiatrist named Fredric Wertham. In this text, he said Robin was like a girl in the comic books because of his clothes, of his attitude and of his adventures (he's often kidnapped). Wertham also claimed (prétendait) that Batman and Robin were homosexuals. Finally, Wertham wrote that a young patient once (une fois) brought a Batman comic book, and he said he was excited by men, and he wanted to be Robin and have relations with Batman. Wertham said comic books would reveal sexual desires, so he studied comics to "cure" homosexuality.

Is Batman Gay? Today we finished studying the panels of the Batman comic book. It sounded like Batman was homosexual and in a relationship with his sidekick, Robin ("Robin, what have I done to you?", or "C'mon, Dick, a cold shower and a big breakfast," after sleeping in the same bed.) We wondered if Batman was really a gay character. But we know that homosexuality was considered as a taboo and a crime in the 50s and 60s when these pictures were created. We also watched a warning programme from the USA that claimed (to claim = prétendre) that homosexuals were sick in the mind, and contagious.   Warm Up a smartphone / a smartwatch
