Image
Today we had another debate. VOCAB a training under a certain age  POINTS teenagers could have guns to defend their family. BUT they don't know how to use them. BUT they should have a training. It would reduce accidents.

Image
The topic of the day was "Policemen should not have guns," and "Guns for self-defense at home are bad." The first group was composed of Brice and Seyfana against Pierre and Yacine. The second group was composed of Darius and Souhil against Antony and Alexis POINTS 1. Policemen should have guns to defend the population, BUT people can be afraid by these guns. BUT in case of a terrorist attack, policemen should have guns. BUT for terrorist attacks, the military are there. BUT they take too much time. And people SHOULD be afraid, because policemen are protectors of order and safety. 2. guns can be dangerous for children or guests (invités). BUT guns should be authorized to kill criminals (burglar=un cambrioleur). BUT if you kill... ...criminals, you go to prison.

VOCAB to hurt - blesser Students / pupils to provoke / to taunt (provoquer) POINTS Teachers could go crazy and kill a student with their gun. -> they have a 6 hour training, so no they can't go crazy. If there's a problem, they can defend their students. You don't need a gun to kill someone.

Gun Control 7: To own (to have) or not to own a gun, points for or against gun control

Image
To own (to have) or not to own a gun, points for or against gun control. + there was a study with two cities. In one city, everyone was given a gun, and in the other, no one had a gun. According to the results of the study, the safest place was the one with guns. Lithuania is a country with almost no guns, but it has one the highest suicide rates in the world. the same with Japan. Switzerland is one of the countries with the highest gun ownership rates, but it's less violent than France or the USA. It's better to have a firearm, because you can defend yourself without the police who could be late. Guns make money. - Guns are rarely used in self defense.  More gun control laws are needed to protect women from domestic violence. There are many suicides caused by guns. the presence of a gun in a house makes conflicts more likely to become violent.

Gun Control 6 : Debate Preparation

Image
Debate Preparation Today we started working on debates. The class was split into two groups, and each group (chaque groupe) had a different document. We had to determine what idea the groups had to defend. The group on the right of the class is against gun control. They are the purple team. The group on the left is for gun control. They are the pink team. Remember : Gun control is about restricting the use of and the access to guns. So purple team doesn't want gun control, and they want guns to be easy to have. Pink team wants limits and restrictions on guns, they want guns to be difficult to have.

☛    The scene takes place in American schools. True, but it's really a school for teachers. ☛    It's a report / a documentary  Wrong, it's just a news. ☛   It seems to be about teachers in America who learns how to use a gun. It's more precisely in Ohio. ☛   Teachers are trained to use guns. It's perfectly true, even if (même si) one of the teachers look like a little girl. ☛   2000 teachers have to be trained for 6 hours. Wrong, it's really for 200 (two hundred) teachers. ☛   It happens in the state of Ohio / in Ohio. Not really, it takes place in Utah, but the document mentions Ohio. ☛  the journalist was talking about future teachers, training to protect students. It's not for future teachers, but for current (actuels) teachers. ☛   the document speaks about guns. Duh ☛   there is a crowd (a lot of people, many people...) in the background.   It's true because we can see them. It's a cr...

Gun Control 3 : A Documentary of Gun Schools

Image
A Documentary about Gun Schools Today we listened to an audio document. Here's what we think we understood: ☛   The scene takes place in American schools. ☛    It's a report / a documentary ☛   It seems to be about teachers in America who learns how to use a gun. ☛   Teachers are trained to use guns. ☛   2000 teachers have to be trained for 6 hours. ☛   It happens in the state of Ohio / in Ohio. ☛   the journalist was talking about future teachers, training to protect students. ☛   someone said he wanted to help and protect students. ☛   the document speaks about guns. ☛   there is a crowd (a lot of people, many people...) in the background. ☛   someone says "it stays on me all day," so maybe this person doesn't agree with the new law. ☛   they use guns to avoid mass shootings. ☛   the document is quite noisy. ☛   In the end, there are two parents.

Gun Control 2 : Calendar of Mass Shootings

Image
Calendar of Mass Shootings   Today we studied an image that was made up of black and white squares. At first we thought they were pixels from a game like Minecraft or Tetris. Brice even imagined it could be a Rorschach test (it's a psychology test).  Then we understood it was a calendar for 2017. All the black squares represented mass shootings. A mass shooting is when a single person kills or injures (blesser) 4 people.
